Three fun facts about the Camino de Santiago that you might not know!
Many theories say that the Templar Knights invented the Spanish version of snakes and ladders to represent the Camino de Santiago. In Logroño, a stop-off on the Camino, there's a giant chequer board depicting the game.
The origin of the scallop as a symbol of the Camino is because pilgrims used to use the shell to scoop up water from rivers and springs to drink.
The Two Marias, Maruxa and Coralia, were very well-known seamstresses in the early 20th century, who legend has it would gallivant around the park in bright make-up looking to find a husband. A statue to them currently stands in La Alameda park.
